For my Bat Mitzvah T'rumah (Mitzvah) project, I am supporting PeacePlayers Middle East. T’rumah means a gift or offering from the heart. Since I was little, I've loved playing basketball. The goal of basketball isn't just about beating the other team - the sport teaches great life lessons like sportsmanship, teamwork and leadership. Playing basketball helps players develop relationships with their teammates by learning to work together and trust one another.
The mission of PeacePlayers Middle East is to unite, educate and inspire Jewish and Arab-Israeli youth through the sport of basketball. PeacePlayers believe that through cooperation and shared goals, an atmosphere that fosters empathy and friendship is created that diffuses hatred and fear. This is especially important for the future of Israel because we need to teach the younger generations of Jewish and Arab Israelis that they can live, play and work together. The money raised will go toward supporting players, coaches, and their programs.
Israel has been going through a horrific time since October 7th of last year. Islamic terror groups have been firing missiles, bombs and attacks for over a year now, and they are STILL holding over 100 people hostage in Gaza. By teaching our youth to trust each other and reject extremism, we are slowly making a positive change to a brighter future where Jews and Arabs can live side by side in peace. This is my small way of contributing to a big cause.
