My name is Ethan Cohen and I'll be having my bar mitzvah this May. I'm a member of Congregation Beth Or, in Pennsylvania where I am learning Hebrew and the importance of mitzvot (Commandments) and tikkun olam (Repair of the World). I live in Doylestown, PA with my parents, two younger brothers, and younger sister.
For my Bar Mitzvah Project, I would like to raise money for less fortunate young athletes who want to play sports but do not necessarily have the means to participate or afford quality equipment. I also want to promote the idea of teamwork and peace! When I discovered PeacePlayers, I knew this was the organization I wanted to join forces with and whose cause I wanted to help!
PeacePlayers uses the power of sport to unite, educate and inspire young people to create a more peaceful world. They offer sport programming, peace education, and leadership development to those living in communities in conflict.
I love playing sports – it is my passion. I play basketball, baseball, and flag football. I also love watching sports and teaching my younger siblings how to play. I think everyone deserves a chance to play sports regardless of their financial or social situation.
I want other kids around the world to be able to experience the magic of sports and teamwork, and I think sports have the power to bring people together. PeacePlayers thinks so too and they’re working everyday to make it happen, but they need help.
Through my bar mitzvah project, I hope to educate my friends and family about these issues, specifically in the Middle East where PeacePlayers Middle East is working to bridge the divide between Arab and Jewish young athletes. The money raised will go toward supporting players, coaches, and their programs.
